Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 on October 7, 2026, and says it costs around 75% less to run than Haiku 4.5 on average. If a vendor runs your phone line or email on Claude, their cost may have dropped. Whether your invoice follows is the vendor’s call.
Claude Haiku 5.5 and the cheap tier
Haiku is Anthropic’s small model tier. The announcement calls Haiku 5.5 “the cheapest, fastest, and most capable small model we’ve ever released.” Anthropic names summaries, compactions, database queries, and classification requests as the work it fits. It says Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 remain better choices for complex agentic coding tasks.
The 75% figure is Anthropic’s own math on its own product, so treat it as a claim. For an owner, the useful questions go to your vendor: which model runs your calls or email, and did your price change after October 7?
Jobber Receptionist, announced August 18, 2025
Jobber makes field service software for home service businesses. On August 18, 2025, it announced general availability of Receptionist, an AI virtual assistant that answers customer calls. Plumbing & Mechanical reported it had handled more than 200,000 conversations by then.
At announcement it came included with Plus plans and as an add-on for Grow plans. Terms may have changed since, so confirm on Jobber’s site. The announcement lists answering during hours you set, transcripts and recordings, and a transfer or text alert when a caller says a keyword you choose.
This item is over a year old. I raise it because owners keep paying for a separate answering tool without checking what their current software already does. Look in your account settings or ask your rep whether an answering feature exists and what it costs.
