Your AI Vendor Can Change Terms in a Quarter
OpenAI gave Cursor about two and a half months of notice. Ask your own AI vendors what happens to you when their suppliers or owners change.

A tool you pay for can lose a key supplier in about two and a half months, and the deal that causes it happens where you cannot see it. Two stories from the week of September 14 show the risk from both sides, and one question covers both.
OpenAI told Cursor it plans to stop supplying models
On August 28, 2026, OpenAI told Cursor, a coding tool, that it plans to stop providing its models, with a proposed cutoff of November 12. DevOps.com reported the trigger: SpaceX bought the company behind Cursor, and OpenAI said it cannot be confident SpaceX will use its technology within its terms of service. Engadget also reported the November 12 date.
Cursor’s CEO told DevOps.com that OpenAI models carry about 5% of Cursor’s traffic, and Cursor offers models from other suppliers, so this one looks survivable. The pattern still applies to you. An AI phone system, scheduler, or chatbot runs on suppliers its vendor chose. When one of those suppliers changes hands, your vendor’s terms can change within a quarter.
Agile & Co announced an AI marketing platform for local service businesses
On September 3, 2026, St. Louis agency Agile & Co announced Core in a press release. Core targets contractors, clinics, auto shops, and med spas. The company describes it as 80% AI and 20% human, with a strategist reviewing every campaign before launch. That is Agile & Co’s own description, and the company sells the service.
Expect more owners to hear “AI marketing platform” pitches this year. Ask any vendor, me included, what data the system touches and who answers for it when it gets something wrong.
A vendor who has thought about suppliers and ownership changes can answer in a sentence. A vendor who has not will show you that too.
